The Pensioners are eyeing the Old Lady’s
left-back, but what does this mean for the Ghana international? As the
transfer window wears on, it’s looking increasingly likely that Alex Sandro
won’t be a Juventus player come next season.
The left-back enjoyed a fine campaign in Serie A,
helped Juventus to the Champions League final, and, as a result, has been
linked with a litany of heavyweight admirers.
we have
reported that Chelsea are primed to move for Alex Sandro, and
are plotting a deal which would make the Brazil international the world’s most
expensive defender.
Antonio Conte’s side are also intending to more
than double the 26-year-old’s wages, although they may yet face competition
from both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
Alex Sandro was one of the reasons why Kwadwo Asamoah reportedly
handed in a transfer request in the aftermath of Juve’s Champions League final
defeat by Barcelona, with the former FC Porto man preferred by Massimiliano
Allegri on the left side of the defence.
Consequently, Asamoah made 18 league appearances last
season, with many coming towards the end of the campaign as the Italian giants
opted to play their strongest side in Europe and the cup, with a second string
deputising in Serie A.
While the Ghana international played 1470 minutes
in the top flight, his left-back rival played 2310, scoring three along the
way.
is!
This
is even without beginning to consider the fact that left-back isn’t even the
position where the Ghana international originally made his name in the sport.
Asamoah should leave Juventus, say Goal readers
Before
the heavyweight interest in Alex Sandro, Asamoah had been heavily tipped for
the exit door, with West Ham United, Southampton and Trabzonspor just some of
the clubs considering a move for the heavily decorated Black Star.
Providing
his injury concerns are firmly behind him, ‘Asabob’ could be a valuable
asset—in midfield or down the left—for any of the aforementioned clubs.
However, should Alex Sandro depart for Chelsea or either of his
other admirers, would Allegri also be willing to let Asamoah leave?
The
former Udinese man is still only 28 and could have some peak years ahead of
him, while Juve have already lost Dani Alves this summer, while Stephan
Lichtsteiner has been heavily linked with a move to OGC Nice as he enters the
final 12 months of his deal.
Ed Dove: Kwadwo Asamoah must consider Juventus exit
Losing
two to three full-backs in one window could well be majorly disruptive for
Allegri and the Old Lady. To lose four? That surely, would leave the club with
too much work to do during the coming months.
Should Alex Sandro depart,
then Asamoah might also see an opportunity for himself to take on a greater
role within this fine Juve side. That, surely, would appeal to the talented
operator, who must surely believe that he has unfinished business in Turin.
