The midfielder was not photographed with the rest of
the squad heading to Wembley for the meeting with Southampton, leaving
supporters baffled
United posted a tweet with photographs of their players arriving in London ahead of Sunday's showpiece at Wembley stadium.
But alarm bells were ringing amongst the club's fanbase, with Mata nowhere to be seen and bemused supporters speculating that he was not going to be selected by Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils have released no official confirmed team news ahead of the meeting with Southampton, aside from Mourinho confirming that Henrikh Mkhitaryan would not play.
The Portuguese also revealed that Michael Carrick is available and that Wayne Rooney, who has been linked with an Old Trafford exit, would be in the matchday squad.

One supporter suggested that Mata may
already be in London having taken part in an interview in the capital
during the week, while others were less convinced.
Mourinho will be looking to guide United to
their second trophy of the 2016-17 campaign, with the club having
lifted the Community Shield at the start of the season following a 2-1
win over Leicester City.
