Firmin Mubele puts Montpellier to the sword

The Leopards attacker netted his third of the campaign for Rennes since arriving during the transfer window
Congo DR attacker Firmin Ndombe Mubele scored the only goal as Rennes edged Montpellier 1-0 in a Ligue 1 match played at Roazhon Park on Sunday.
Mubele’s goal helped Rennes to only their third win from their previous 20 league games. The pacey Congolese forward has been one of the few positive stories to emerge from the second half of the season from Les Rouges et Noirs’ camp and proved why was he signed once more with a solid showing to earn his side the maximum points.
Despite squandering numerous opportunities through the night, the 23-year-old’s persistence eventually paid off when he forced Daniel Congre into a mistake late in the second half. And when the Montpellier defender slipped, Mubele proceeded into the box before curling a shot around the goalkeeper.

The Leopards international was snatched from Qatari side Al Ahli in January and has proven to be an integral addition to Christian Gourcuff’s side.
Despite the win, Rennes did not gain any ground on the log standings and Montpelier also remained stationary at 15th with 39 points from 36 matches whilst Rennes are 10th with 47-points.
