Real Madrid wrote their names further into history on Wednesday as they equalled Bayern Munich’s record run of scoring in 61 successive matches in all competitions.
Zinedine Zidane’s men had made their worst ever start to a Champions League encounter as they fell 2-0 behind in the second leg of their semi-final against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon.
However, fears that their 3-0 first-leg advantage might be wiped away were allayed shortly before the interval as Isco scored from close range following fine work from Karim Benzema.
While his goal gave the reigning European champions a stronger foothold on the night, it also meant that they matched an incredible sequence created by Bayern, whose run stretched from March 16, 2013 until April 5, 2014. The last time Zidane’s men were shut out in any fixture was by Manchester City in the Champions League last April.Should Madrid score against Sevilla at home at the weekend, they will hold the record outright.
